Hi all new member to forum have a question on oxygen fills

Have a question about oxygen what is the difference between oxygen used for dive bottle refill and oxygen used for welding.

I know that dive bottles are filled to 232bar 0r 300bar depending on type of bottle and only filled if in date for test. With clean filtered air.

Would assume that welding oxy bottles have something added or maybe not.

Can anyone clear this one for me please.

As you say dive bottles are compressed air which i think is 90'ish percent nitrogen.
industrial/welding Oxygen bottles are nearly pure oxygen.

Oxy bottles for welding contain pure oxygen, dive bottles contain air, which is a mixture roughly of 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen.

Thanks all for reply s. I am on a learning curve here.
Dive bottles can be filled with pure compressed air, or I believe Nitrox can be blended too . If oxygen for welding is pure oxygen can a bottle be filled via a dive compressor.ie pure compressed breathing air. A litle confusing as they are both labelled oxygen bottles @300 bar.

I think you still end up with good old standard air in your dive bottle, just nice and dry...

All the filter does is remove dust & moisture, it won't remove any of the constituent gasses of air. With compressed air, even pure air, you get a mixture whether you like it or not.

To fill any bottle with pure oxygen you have to do it at the sort of industrial plant that the likes of BOC run, they refine air to get pure oxygen by removing the nitrogen &c. A bit like refining oil.

The normal way for end users to get pure oxygen is to swap their empty bottle for a full one, I'm not aware of any portable oxygen plants.

A diving compressor draws air from the atmosphere filters it, compresses it and removes most of the moisture it does not add anything to it so you end up with roughly 80/20 nitrogen/oxygen If you are diving and require "nitrox" your bottles are part filled with compressed air then extra oxygen is added from (an pure oxygen bottle at a higher pressure). This is only compressed air with a higher oxygen content.
Pure oxygen is poisonous to divers if used below 8 mtrs.

Thanks that clears that one up. It has taken a while to get the answer I was looking for should have come to this forum earlier . I have asked numerous people but not got a clear answer one again thanks all.
