Hi All.
I am new. Don't recall any welding before other than a quick dab with an arc.
I have most tools but am lacking the ability to weld and I would like to learn out of interest.
Hobbies are boating (stainless steel and alumminium), cars tend to be older so the ability to cut off bits and weld bits would be useful once I have gained a bit more skill.
I would appreciate suggestion as to what sort of kit I should be looking at?
Don't want to spend the earth but do want something useful.
I am thinking MIG or maybe TIG, but am unsure of the relevant pros & cons and would appreciate some input.
I have also seen some combined TIG welder and Plasma Cutters, probably chinese.
There are some structural bits I would like to be able to make for the boat once profficient, out of maybe 5mm stainless, however only one or two and I have limited power (13A) although I could install a 16amp socket in the garage. Also don't want too large physically as space at a premium.
If the thicknes is too large for that sort of supply I would consider doing the prep, tacking and taking the items to be welded professionally.
I may not be able to reply to any posts for a few days as heading to boat soon.
