Hi all, been a multi skilled apprentice for about 9 months now covering a lot of different tasks however mainly do fabricating and welding with a MIG welder. Joined here to gain some extra knowledge to help along with the training I'm getting and hopefully learn something about tig and arc welding since I've never tried it.

Place called armour plastics in Washington .. It's broke into 3 units, the engineering where they make alsorts of parts for machines, machines them selfs, there's seceral cnc machines.. there's the power bath section, which makes power baths of all sorts mobility, jacuzzi, built in speakers etc and then there's the tray plant which is self explanatory.

I know them, from a good while ago. Not really ever in competition with me, three other plastics companies in blah blah blah years.

It is really good to know that the proper apprenticeships are still going well. A friends' daughter was the TDR Apprentice of the Year a few years ago. A colleague and I went to the award ceremony to collect ours. Running across the floor to greet the mam with big hugs did not endear me to her daughter. Fine afterwards though.

Good luck with all you do, Laura, as MikeOS said, there is a lot of experience on here, in both camps, and not just welding as you may have noticed. The wealth of knowledge is quite astounding.

Twenty years later you get used to the thick gloves, but you don't need them then as your skin becomes like leather anyway, well, after enough burnt fingers it does haha

each process has its own uses, though stick is my favourite...bit of an artform

I like to think stick is like vinyl as opposed to cd or mp3 ...welding striped bare, complete with scratches and fluff.

...but then, I'm at that funny age.

Never in a million years. Stick welding is a process that in the right situation is second to none and far from out of date. Try carrying a gas bottle up 5 flights of stairs or see how far your mig/tig torch will reach round corners.

Who said anything about out of date? You misunderstand me... I lurve stick ...much as I lurve my old LPs. That's what you get for trying to be poetic!
