Hi and a bit of advice please!

New to the forum and thought I better say hello. I'm Pete, I've recently set up as self employed after getting made redundant and looking for advice on a decent ac/dc tig plant and a plasma cutter to buy. Any advice would be apriciated.

What exactly will they be used for ? Will they be used dailly or weekly ?

The tig will mostly be used for ally and a bit of stainless. The plasma will be used mostly on mild say 6-8mm. To start with they will probably be getting used weekly but hopefully that will progress to daily.

What's the budget? How thick metal and what kind of welds will you be wanting to use the tig on?

R-tech.

Whatever you go for don't scrimp of amps for the TIG. You need as much as you can get so +180min over 200 far better. R-tech do a 230/240amp 240 13amp set, Kemppi are another buy you'll need to add a few more beer vouchers to own one of those sets

Budget wise I was thinking around the £1500 for the tig, not sure about the plasma as I don't really have any experience with them. Material thickness , a bit of all sorts really, I definitely want something 200A + so that covers a fair range of thickness doesn't it. I'd like a foot pedal as well seen as that's all I've ever used in the past.

I've had a look at r tech and wasn't sure how good it was? I've got a portamig mig and I'm impressed with that, does anybody have any experience with their tig offering?
