hi, and how can I cut stainless

Hi , im new here from Kent GB my first question is how to cut a 4 foot x 2" x 0.9 strip of stainless steel with out any distortion ,? I have a 3 foot guillotine just bought, and would love a 4 foot one but its a matter of what I can afford but if I find a 4 foot at a reasonable price I would sell my 3 foot, anyway in the mean time love the way my guillotine cuts, although it leaves a small burr is this normal? are these throatless cutters any good at cutting straight cuts , I dont mind burrs but distortion looks so amature I have a plasma cut40 but only used it a couple of times so dont think its the way forward I like doing things my self if I can but may try to find a shop to cut it for me in the end
any suggestions!

that was one of my thoughts but I could clamp at the ends but how to clamp in the middle cutting from a sheet

you could do it in 2 stages with a big g clamp in the middle that you cut up to then move back and carry on.

when I have had to cut thin stuff I just put it on a sheet of ply wood and cut through the metal and slightly into the ply. never used a straight edge with a grinder though, or you could use a jigsaw with the depth stop, I extended mine by welding a bit of flat bar to it and grinding it down till it fit properly, got a few now in various lengths

You might want to try one of those de-burring tools. I got a very cheap one from here, and I found it quite good, despite my initial scepticism.
I've obviously not tried a proper one from the likes of Noga yet, 'cos I've not broken this one so far, and this works surprisingly well - for the price.

its probably 50 year old , unknown make ,cast iron treadle , should it cut newspaper or how could I test it ?
the burr, I can just click it with my finger nail on one side sometimes if im not consentrating I cant always find the click straight away

with a guillotine its like a new sheet edge(apart from my burr) , is it as good as that ? is it easy to keep straight?
this may be the machine for me and there is a M/M 6 miles from me

Well for the moment I have found the answer a local branch of Alco supplies stainless sheet 2.5m x 1.25m x .9 mirror finish £113 plus small cutting charge for my strips ,
so thanks for all suggestions and help ,
studying swagers next, anyone got a good one?

Hi , been looking at your swager impressive, love your spend no money attitude,

im trying to make two running boards and front panel infront of rad in stainless .9mm with ribs or what ever they are called , im afraid of the cheap ebay swagers as to the quality and life .would love to copy your machine but time and needing to not get too sidetracked , looking to buy one because of the lack of time, and love good tools
