I have been looking through the forums for a while whilst working out what welder to buy. I already have a good arc welder for the thicker stuff (and the days when I can not be bothered to clean the materials to be welded!)
After much deliberation and talks with a few suppliers I went with MTA (sorry Weldequip
) and got an MTA 181 - which comes supplied as a Tec Arc - got a great deal 
Having spent so much money on the machine I can now only afford to run it on CO2, but the welds are still smoother than the old Clarke unit I learned with. My budget for getting in some stockpile of steel also went on the welder so for now I am limited to practising on some scrap
