Hi,completly new to welding.!!!

Hello all,
I am a complete newbie to welding and am looking for help/pointers.I recently fell heir to a Mathieson Mig 161 and all it's parts.However there are no instructions or booklets with it. I spoke to Mathieson in Galston and they don't provide any manuals for the machine.I hope to get the unit into use very soon as I am rebuilding a Landrover Defender and am at the stage of needing to have the facility to weld for some parts of the project.

If any one has the book of words for the set up , and use of the machine I would love to borrow/copy them,or sit in on a basic "how to" talk.

Sorry about the ramble , but I dont want to switch it on and damage something due to my own ignorance of the machine.

welders generally are very simmilar, like cars, if you can drive one, you can drive them all, what do you want to know?

Learning the Mathieson 161

Hi,

Boyd is my first name, just looking for a general where to start , never having used one before.First thing I must do is fit a new liner then refit the wire.

Then its time to try my first weld on some metal I have around.

Are there any " dont do that " or is it safe to just play.

I am used to working with big chain saws, which in the wrong hands it all goes very wrong very quickly, hence all the questions.....................!!!
