Hi everyone.... New here and first question

Hi everyone...... I am new here and just a hobby welder. DIY jobs and anything that needs fixing. Not very good at it but am trying to learn.

I thought this was the most appropriate thread... If not please move to correct location.

My question (having searched, albeit to no avail). I am looking for a new lens for my helmet.... Currently has a 11 shade in it and I simply cannot see very well at all. Before this was a 12..... An absolute no no.

Before buying a replacement at a lower shade.... Will one of those lens you can buy off eBay which auto darkens and is solar powered fit right in to my std existing helmet..... Or does it need to have some sort of fitting to work?

The electronics are not in the glass so it won't work.

You are trying to learn so don't waste money on a glass and get an Ebay cheapie auto darkening helmet, you will would never go back.

Once you use an auto helmet you will never go back, but remember this protects your eyes and you only ever get ONE set so buy the best you can afford. I`ve got a solar powered auto helmet myself and its bloody great. Try to get decent brand with an adjustable shade and reaction speed so you can set it to your own personal preferences. You`ll find your welding starts will improve with an auto helmet too.

You can buy auto lenses that will fit. They are about twice the price of an auto helmet.

Might be worth it if you had a comfortable helmet that was rated for all position welding (i.e. wont melt if molten metal drops on it.)

An inexpensive auto helmet is worth the money. Most go from 9 to 13 shade. Look for one with adjustable settings and 1/10,000 response time.
