Hi, just thought i would join up to get some tips as i have a bmw e30 that needs a fair bit of welding, ive tried getting quotes from people and most dont want to know, probably because it would be far easier to get a better shell.

Anyway ive done some research and i'am going to need a mig welder and some co2/argon gas. a decent welding mask, welding gloves and a few other odds and sods

this is the work that needs doing, it might be towards the end of the year or next summer when i get round to it, should give me plenty of time to practise.

Any advise on the below picture would be great, the thin strip above the sill is where 2 (or possibly 3 looking at it) panels overlap, is this a case of cutting out and welding a plate in? or does it make it anymore tricky?

Basically i want to spend around £100-£150 on a welder, will i get one thats fit for purpose??, i would rather buy a decent used than new crap welder.

any advise would be appreciated

Incentive!

Redwine has certainly given me incentive and ideas on repairing some minor rear wheel arch repair to my own vehicle. If you ever get stuck there is always one or more knowlegeable guys on here who'm I am sure will be only too glad to help you.

As with regards to you looking for a welder in the £150 bracket, going by a lot of peoply on here asking the same question, the Clarke seem to be a good investment for the hobby welder. Any questions drop Steve at weldequip shop a line, "see header top of page" Very helpful and won't rip you off by selling you something you don't need.
