Hi all,
I just wanted to introduce myself as i am new to the site- and new to welding.
My name is Ben and Im from Leeds. I am a 21 year old veedub nut. I am currently completely restoring a mk2 golf GTI (with the help of my dad with the bodywork- but back to him later).
I also own an '86 mk2 scirocco in showroon cond with 48k genuine miles, a type 25 camper and a mk3 polo daily drive.
Back to my golf project. The golf was my dads years ago but he gave it to my brother. My brother neglected it, ripped all the plastict and stickers off it, badges off, trim off, grill off, the lot and then left it for dead for 3 1/2 years rotting in the drive. He then gave it to me because it was easier than towing it to the scrap yard!
When my dad had it it was a beautiful car it was such a shame. She has less than 100k with FSH until my bro and the interior is totally immaculate.
The restoration began!
I am able to do all the mechanical work myself thanks to watching my dad since as long as i can remember (he isnt a mechanic but an engineer with a passion for cars and a garage kitted out better than most garages so i was in good steed!)
I basically stripped everything down and either replaced, or blasted and painted everything. The engine is still to tidy but the mechanics, steering, suspension, breaking system etc is now better than new.
Body work time...
With all the mechanics done its time to make a start on the body work again. Im lucky in the fact that my dad has taught me and talked me through all the steps and processes i will use and shown me how to it all. I found this site by fluke as i am starting to do some welding by myself soon and will probably need extra advice on various things from you experts i can use to impress my dad!!!
Im currentl on with replacing the rear outer archer (on a 3dr of course) and when i work out how to post pics (help please!) i will post all the prep work i have done.
Anyway, enough rambling!
Great site,
Ben
