Hey ppl, posted in wrong room I guess, MIG section. Anyway I am into (better late than never) restoring my own vehicles, Panel beating and Painting, painting is a lot easier than welding for me, will get the welding right soon enough, just need more practice, advice in here has hepled a lot, holes and more holes, just got some Argoshield, hallelujah hopefully will see some decent welds soon, got a 4x4 here that needs some work, have cut the rust out, tacked in two plates, reading info here b4 attempting seams and finishing off. some vertical and mostly horizontal welds, getting the settings right is a trial , esp with a cheapo 150 amp Mig ( made in China by a Korean, with wiring from India, panels from Japan, plastic from Indonesia and sold by an Aussie), how can I go wrong still, one day may make me some $$ from repairs, then upgrade.

Hi & welcome. Doesn't really matter which section you post in over here - we're easy going here.

Settings are a pain to work out until you get used to what works with your welder. Then you only need to make minor adjustments all the time to stop everything going wrong. Not convinced you need anything more than a cheap 150 though. Mine has done well. You'll like the Argoshield - you can do really neat welds with that stuff which feels good.

Thanks Malcolm, will be trying, and I stress trying, to do a decent weld today, will let you know, if you hear a very loud scream, don't worry, only me with frustration. Am looking fwd to a decent weld, bit of a perfectionist I am afraid, if a job is worth doing do it well and do it once.

Well Hallelujah, finally got a half decent weld going, did a panel inside drivers door, vertical and horizontal, and turned out ok, after a bit of grinding of course, still getting used to settings, next project will be putting in flyscreens in subs :-).
One thing, the welds are not breaking, hit it hard with the hammer, and only dented the workpiece, have to make sure it's safe and the boys at our traffic inspections will pass it. Got one longish section to do, using the techniques advised on this site, waiting for a sheetmetal bender to arrive, then will have a go. Weld on
