Thought I'd best introduce myself as I was rude enough to post a thread asking people's advice without doing it first. Please forgive me? My name is Dave and I reside in Cambridgeshire (Ramsey to be precise). I'm not currently working as a welder but thinking that may change soon due to things going on int family (long story). Feels like I am still a full time welder with in laws that farm!!!

Ayup to another fenlander, I'm in Crowland, north of P'boro, so not far away. I know you've said you're not working as a welder at present but have you in the past or do you have any welding qualifications? Just curious to see what standard farmers want welds doing to

Hi, yeah I know where Crowland is. I have worked as a welder and have city and guilds qualifications in mig and gas. What about yourself? As regarding welding for farmers, if it works and it's cheap, it'll do. But the same could be said for everything I feel. I've kind of married into a farming family so to them I'm bloody cheap!!!!

I've no formal welding quals, but served an apprenticeship as a Mechanical fitter at Castle Cement (formerly Ketton Cement) near Stamford, where we got to do a bit of metal-sticking and am self-taught at stick and MIG. I've recently invested in a more powerful Lincoln Electric MIG set, a Thermal Arc DC inverter set for stick and TIG and a plasma cutter, all of which I've yet to use but will put to use soon making 'stuff'. I'm just looking to broaden my range of work options as my curent job in the power industry whilst paying very well bores the tits off me!

You sound very well set up so far. And as you probably know experience is one of the best qualifications. If I remember correctly my C&G in mig at least, the tutors would set the machine up and say off you go.
