Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking on here for a while picking up lots of useful info for a while so thought it was about time I registered.
Anyway a bit about me, I’m 39 and work as an electrical and mechanical maintenance manager, I started out doing an apprenticeship in electrical electronic and mechanical engineering with the MOD 24 years ago and have done a load of different jobs including, fork lift truck mechanic, Electrician and Production Planner. I have had a good few cars my favourite so far probably being a Fiat Coupe and the worst being a metro automatic I got from a pall for £50 after a Jag wrote off my Coupe. I am presently driving an Alfa Romeo 147 and a Land Rover Discovery on weekends.
I have a workshop which I share with a couple of mates which you could squeeze six cars into but at the moment it has a couple of Land Rover Discoveries in it in bits getting welded up. We have a two post ramp to fit in once the Disco’s are out the way and just about any tool you could want.
Welder wise we have a little Clarke 90 mig which dose most of the work, a Clarke 185E mig which I haven’t managed to get working quite rite yet, a little inverter stick welder and a Chinese made Tig machine which I bought to make expansion tanks and oil catch tanks for cars just as eBay got flooded by cheap Chinese stuff so it’s not really been used much. I’m thinking about buying a plasma cutter as well to speed up cutting the rot out of the landy’s.
I have also been making biodiesel for five years now and have done thousands of miles in various different cars without any trouble apart from a couple of blocked filters.
