Hi Everyone,
After a couple of months of lurking I decided to sign up. Came across this forum whilst researching machines to upgrade my ancient buzz box stick welder that has served me well for over 10 years pretty soon. With the garage/workshop finished I now have the room for a decent oil cooled arc for the big stuff and a half decent mig for finer work. I had a breif affair with Tig welding quite a few years ago until the tig circuits went pop (oddly mma still worked). In blind anger I didn't use the GYS as an arc again (not sure why TBH ) and instead went back to the old reliable buzzbox and have struggled on with it since. I shouldn't really have to much cause to complain though that welder has probably been the best £40 I ever spent - despite the pathetic duty cycle it's made me a trailer from a scrap caravan, our dog kennells, a gas bottle woodburner (below), Oil barrel BBQ (a nightmare with 3.25mm rods ), A 10T log splitter to fit the mini digger (pics to come when I finish it off next week) and countless other bits and repairs too.
By chance I came across a post here about scratch start tig - well it gave me a few ideas and a bit of experimenting with my old broken tig reveals there might well be a little bit of life left in it yet. I pinched a 24v supply from the cooling fan to be able to trigger the gas solenoid via the button on the gun, and away it goes a trial run looks very promising! though I've gone very rusty - still I always was a function before form person
Anyway enough waffling on from me, glad to finally get signed up hope to get some more constructive posts up soon...
