Just to do one job or plans for future use?

I bought an cheap SIP/Cosmo just to attach some brackets in an engine bay after a upgraded motor was dropped in - never has the saying Buy cheap buy twice been rammed home with so much meaning. Never have I had so many frustrations with my abilities to get the hand of this "glue metal" process

I sold my soul to the Devil and bought a Portamig 185 - most expensive workshop item I have ever bought

I've built gates for the garden, Dollies for cars, made welding bench and repaired/modified several cars and it has coped with everything I have thrown at it - it would have been half the price if I'd not sunk money into an SIP/Cosmo.

Only need it to sort the welding on bulkhead, after that is finished probably wont be used much.

Yeah - like I said I needed to stick to brackets in an engine bay - that's all so a cheap box mover seemed a great plan

If that really is your plan buy a mid range clarke (something 150 amps with gas facility) and a bottle of rent free gas and that will do the job nicely

However my money is on you will find a few more uses for it

PS I was born in Ipswich but spent most of my teenage years in Woodbridge School

I now live on the other side of the border in Thetford, Norfolk but still regard myself as a Suffolk boy

Hello and welcome, there is a load of information on here about welders, have a look at what's been said about any machine you consider. Most of the cheap stuff is useless rubbish.

As your a fellow Landrover owner I can assure you that you will be needing that welder...
