Been "studying welding" on the forum for some months now in preparation for rebuilding and maintaining two Beemers.

This is also a chance to say a big "THANK YOU" to you all for making this a fantastic web site and a model for what a forum should be like. It is so refreshing for a DIYer to have a group of guys and gals that give freely of their wealth of welding experience without being talked down to or patronised. Special thanks to Weldequip and Gasman for their exemplary service.

Will keep you posted with pics of the project when I am confident enough with the welder to point it at the Beemer.

Thanks anyway for the welcome. Not so much an introduction but a chance to thank you all for all the priceless info.
And no, I didn't get the compressor in the end - a question of priorities and space in the garage. Invested in a Kemppi MinarcMig 150 to give me a half chance of doing justice to the E30. Bought the Beemer new in 1986, 146,000 miles, original clutch, never let us down, passed down to both children who passed their driving tests in it. Cracked head in June last year, so decided to rebuild it from the ground up.
