I Have a problem with a welder I bought the other day a 240v Butters 181 mig and not being a welder by profession I'm stumped as to the problem I have with it so hope you can help me , when the wire is out the end of the gun ...without pressing the trigger if I touch it to the metal I wish to weld it glows red back to tip, I have tried a different gun and lead back to welder it's just the same so problem must be in machine I guess??

Welcome Steve-mst. With a welder of that size It should have a contactor (Heavy current relay) that is used to switch on the welding power to the wire (and other parts ie wire feed) when the trigger is pressed I would suspect this is stuck on or being held on by somthing else. If you point the tourch away from the metal to be welded and trigger is pressed do you hear a loud clonk which is the contactor switching on/in. I would suspect that you don't hear it as it is already on. A pic of inside may help to point you in direction of item. You could do search for "contactor" to get an ideal of what to look for.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info on the contactor, I opened up the side casing to find a relay switch (ISE ISKRA TRP 651) in the bottom of the casing and a wired direct link setup, I've looked on Maplin site and can get this. Maplin stock number (N25AW) which looks identical so will get one on Monday and give it a go.
