im dez, 22, from ipswich (suffolk, uk).
id like to think of myself as a pretty proficient welder, ive worked my way up though a few different rigs to my current setup-
thermal arc fabricator 200.
weldability reg.
arcair 4m torch
size Y argoshild light bottle.
and im gunna splash out on a new speedglas helmet soon to complete my setup.
i havent got a pic of my rig i can find, but its this unit-
http://www.migtigarc.co.uk/MIG_Welder/Thermal_Arc_Fabricator_200/thermal_arc_fabricator_200.html
and everyone knows what a reg and bottle looks like stuck on the back
it was all pretty pricey( about £750 all told with wire, bottle hire, fill, etc.) but i see a welder as an investment that eventually pays for itself (often many times over), so its worth buying quality, not a disposable pile of crap machine mart special like some do.(sorry to anyone who owns a welder bought at machine mart!! )
to put it simply downtime spent fixing crap welders costs money twice, once for the part and second for time you spend fixing it when you should be welding!!
ive had no problems at all with this setup in the almost 2 years ive had it, ive just replaced the liner after 2 15kg rolls of wire through it, and thats all its needed. i chose this unit cos its about as big as i can go single phase, and i cant alswsy gaurentee ive have a 3 phase feed when i need it as i often do jobs away from my workshop. itll buzz together 3/8" plate just fine and i dont really have a need for anything thicker than that.
i use it for automotive fabrication work- not just welding on replacement panels, i build hot rods and custom cars, so i often do roof chops, modified/lowered suspension, and scratchbuilt chassis.
im here cos i need some info on sourcing some parts to fix up my old welder before i sell it, and here seemed the place to ask!!
i need a wire feed unit for a maypole 165 turbo. the white plastic bit has snapped so the tension bolt doesnt work now.
Cheers
