I'm currently near then end of the welding on a Morris Minor convertible. Just replacing the metal bit of floorpan under the n/s part of the seat box near to the spring hanger, and making repairs to the rear seat box itself to do, then closing in the n/s rear wheel arch.

I have a Clarke 150 turbo.

I may be a newbie to the site but have been Mig and oxyacetylene welding (mostly on car restoration projects) for years now.

I was looking at a thread about welding the boot floor into a "disco" took me a few pages to realise thats the nick name for Landrover Discovery. I did not realise they rust that bad It takes a Morris Minor 40 years to get that rotten but seems to be quicker on a "disco" (learnt something new there!)

Yes, many of the mechanical parts are identical from frogeye to Minor.

I suppose Discos tend to collect more mud than Minors. I've got a TR7 I'll be attacking now I've got a big cylinder of gas. Are you going to post pics of your resto as it happens? It's something that you don't often see on classic forums, apart from VW ones, that is. It gets a bit boring seeing the innards of yet another beetle...

Its something I've been meaning to do on the East Kent Morris minor club website I run. I've took lots of pics.

I personally would rather post on a car board where most folk cant weld than on a welding board where you just know the neatness of your welds will be judged.

Eh? Surely improving ones welding is the whole point. And "judged" is definately not the correct word. Constructive and friendly critisism, designed to improve each others work, is nearer the mark. The same as Golf, you can never be too good and constant practice is needed, even by the "pro" welders, or your quality suffers.

Hey John welcome to the forum. I dont know what forum your used to but in here people only make comments to help. There is nobody here who will 'judge' you for what kinda welds you produce. This is one of the most friendly and constructive forums about. There are so many engineering minds here that you get a response about any problem relativly quickly and what ever perspective you have on a particular problem there is normally some one who has either experianced the same issue or who has a solution for you.
There are loads of professionals on here who can help with anything (including the best way to get the wife to open up the purse strings!)

I love the minors and will look forward to seeing more of your picks!

OK, sounds good to me. Its just that I've seen a lot of threads titled "judge my welds". My welds penetrate and are strong, but not always as neat as I would like. In particular when welding underneath the car lying on my back. I'd like to have welds as neat underneath the car as I can get when welding from above and the side, so as to minimise grinding time under the car.

Any tips?

Moi, je soude sur une vielle voiture classique Anglais. Elle s'apelle Une Morris Minor, et c'est un decapotable en blanche. C'est un restoration d'un vielle (old!) voiture.

Now what am i welding....don't have much time at the mo for hobby welding...so it's just my job as a fab-welder....car parts for citroen and peugeot...
