Hello All, My names Andy, Im all very new to the world of Welding,
and also looking very much forward to learning and perfecting this wonderfull skill. Im really pleased ive joined this forum it looks great, very informative, and cant wait to get stuck in and hopefully in time be able to set up my own litle workshop.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to the forum. Hmm, gym equipment, that's an interesting outlet - I'm often musing over the prospect between exercises down at my gym but wonder whether it would be commercially viable, having no idea how much the 'professional' stuff costs? I've made a few bits and bobs for a mate who has a home gym but nothing very serious. I'm knocking up what I think of as the mother of all dumbbell racks for him at the moment. He's an older guy and a lot of his weights etc. are lovely old cast jobbies he has had for years.

Welcome Andy, sounds like you have plenty of uses for the art of welding, I know a guy who had plans to make gym equipment, he soon found out the big suppliers could sell at less than he was paying for the steel, still good fun to make your own of course..enjoy the forum

I too had looked at the gym stuff bit its not just the steel that expensive its all of the pulleys, cords etc.

As for the car parts your in the right place as more than a few of us have built our own cars on here, welcome to the forum buddy

H iGraham, Thankyou for your reply, Well some of the top company's sell their leverage machines, wich replicate the use of a free weights from 1/4k per machine, but ideally what i have in mind is i have a very good friend who is in the proccess of putting up designs i have personally created,well i guess you could say invented, he will put it on 3D CADD as a working proto-type, and i was hoping along the lines of sometime in the near future recreate these designs i have come up with, just a healthy thought.
Would it be possible to put up a pic or 2 of the dumbell rack when youv'e finished, that would be great, Thanks

Hi There Stuvy, As i mentioned to graham above, they do sell for a lot of quid but with the leverage stuff out now you would be looking at purchasing the leverage mechanism's also plus the upholstery, but saying that i reckon their could be a bit of money to be ha from this, as a sideline if 1 has the time i reckon.
But ive had a great passion for Quality kitcars and very intrested in the chasis side of things, plus custom parts etc im sure their would be a type of market for this, even custom Chopper frames, its something i would dearly love to persue in time,

Thanks for the Welcome Steve. there would be a lot to consider if i was aiming mainly for the comercial side of things and im sure plenty of starting capitol would be the limiting factor, but i think my best bet would be to carry on with my designs go down the patent route, but will definately look into my own stuff for personal use, and hand craft pieces for potential customer's on a small scale would be Great, Thanks Again.
