Hi,

I have been in the backgound since 2011, and after reading numerous postings and trying to soak up all the info, I have now decided to go ahead and purchase my first mig welder.
I intend to learn by welding odds and sods that I have in mind - too many to mention - then moving on to some fab work for my 4x4. My ultimate goal is to become proficient, confident and good enough, to build my own kit car for track use. (I've already built one, but the chassis was already welded).

I'd also like to say a big thank you to Jim Davey (and his dad) who took time out of a busy day to answer all of my questions, as well as explaining the many issues of starting mig welding, and for showing me the kit available that would be benificial to me. Really nice people

Hi, what's the 4x4 project?

My 4x4 is not a project as such. It's a Hilux Surf and I want to add a winch bumper, and some rock sliders to replace the ugly side steps - and maybe a V8 Don't really do off roading, just want it to look pretty!

Ah I have spent quite a lot of time working on my father in laws Surf 3 ltr td, a good truck but it gets some hard use!

They do take what's thrown at them. Had mine 9 years, was my daily driver for most of them, but use it mainly for towing my track car around, carrying the mountain bikes and fishing.

This one is a hard used off-road maid of all work, the only real breakdown in 10 years was the engine ECU so I get a lot of stick about the Landrover that's been in bits in my workshop for the last 5 years!

I changed the h/gasket about five years ago, (preventative), other than that, it's never let me down. Landys, well they're another story ....................!
