Hi there, help required please

Hi
im very new to welding but recently applied for an apprenticeship through the ECITB website.
I was invited for an initial assesment today, and was told that I really need to think about what I wish to do with the apprenticship. either welding, plating or pipefitting.
Now I have tried to find as much info as I can on all 3 of these, but cant seem to get much atall,
what are the main outlines for these proffessions? and what can I do with a qaulifacation in all 3 of them?
I would prefer to do more fabrication work, so would that come under plating? or should I go in for welding?
any help would be much appreciated

Well the first year is college based, and then you get a sponsor company in year 2. but the head of teaching said they will accomodate you to suit the organisation, So in theory I could choose which ever 1 I wanted and then they would find my sponser based on what I chose.

I don't really think you should be asking for others to give their opinion on your future working life.

With the best intentions in the world, I should think a certain amount of bias will be present with any answers.

For example, I served my time as a sheet metal worker in the nuclear industry and never really enjoyed it, thinking I could never enjoy that type of work, I then left and went into commercial bodywork and coach building and loved the work..was still sheet meatl work but so different...so I could have given you 2 different answers for the same trade.

Have you any local firms that you could pester for an insight into the 3 trades, remembering of course there will always be a big variation between the trades dependant on what the comapny produces or maintains.

A local plater up here could be making fire escapes, 50 miles from here he could be building Nuclear subs....both are platers but a world of difference in the work and working environments.
