I am a self taught amateur just retired. Can anyone give any info on a easycraft 150 just purchased for £95 have no mask yet so not used it yet. This is the most interesting forum I hve been on. best regards.
Hi Mixer 10 welcome on board
any advice you want you'll find it on here, great stuff.
First piece of advice is buy a face mask/ helmet.
seriously, protect your eyes and any bare skin
secondly practice, practice, practice. Just use scrap metal and twiddle about with wire speed and amps till you get a decent weld. Use the tutorial to see what you're looking for with regards to a good weld

Thanks Stevo70 for your reply and advice. I have been welding for a few years now and had a good setup, but due to having a problem with my back I sold my welder and mask snap on 180 optec solar mask ect. My back is OK now and I miss my welder. I have purchased this easycraft 150 as a stopgap to see how I go on. have a gas bottle and reg and looking for a new solar mask. Best regards. Charlie.
Hi Charlie
oh I see, thought you had just started. Kind of same thing myself, did a bit of welding about 10 years ago and really missed it. I dunno it was kind of theraputic if ya know what i mean.
If you're after a solar mask can recommend a parweld mask from weldequip on this forum £58 i think it was. Got one off weldequip along with a new clarke 160TE
Hope the back holds up for those long fillet welds
Stephen
Hi Stephen. Thanks for the recommend, purchased the parweld mask off weldequip just tried it. superb bit of kit pity the welder is c--p. Made up mind to spend big bucks on decent welder. Regards Charlie.
so you got a parweld mask. Not a bad bit of kit for £58, so much easier than a basic mask no more poking around in the dark then realising you are 10mm off target when the arc starts. You said you are after a new welder. What do you fancy, any ideas? I've recently bought a clarke 160TE which is a nice machine so much better than my old sip migmate 150 turbo. Spend a bit more than the clarke and the portamig seems to have a good reputation, british built as well ! but there is a waiting list for them as they are made to order.
Stephen
Hi Sephen. Got open mind at present, but Classic200 mig on the short list. Got some new tips and had another play with my easycraft 150 and its better than I thought having got used to settings, it could do with a euro conversion and a better torch. Regards Charlie
