Hi..

I've been reading through the forum most of today (in place of doing some real work of course...) and have already found more information that i currently understand (having said that i know squat about welding at the moment... lol)

Decided to join up becuase i have a burning desire to build Motorbikes, and as this would require learning to weld, you lot might come in very handy...

anyways, seems like a very friendly forum, which is good 'cos i have a habit of asking millions of (sometimes quite pointless) questions and rambling on a bit too much...

Welcome Cerpahim, I also joined another forum today and I'm in much the same position as yourself on there - whole bunch of people been there for ages and I'm trying to find out something without really knowing what to ask. Daunting isn't it!

You'll see some lovely neat welds on motorcycles - mostly because they are very often exposed so they have to be pretty as well as strong. The manufacturers tend to use TIG welding for the neatness. Pig to learn but great results with practice.

Feel free to ask away with daft questions.

I thought that might be the case, but i intend on learning as much as possible, and i gather that MIG is one of the best to start with?

my dads pretty handy with this kind of stuff so i would get him to teach me, but he lives in Michigan... only a couple of thousand miles out of the way lol...

Sure he can come over for a visit. MIG is a great place to start - it has the quickest learning process of any type of welding. If you did decide to attempt TIG, then MIG would be an excellent grounding. Though actually MIG is perfectly good for motorcycle frames. If it's mild steel tubes at an angle it could be better than TIG.

well i'm thinking i want to go for whatevers strongest and not worry too much about looks, I'd like to build streetfighters you see, more performance less pretty bits...

Hi

bit of news on my journey into the world of welding, i'm joining an evening course in MIG and TIG at my local college in september, i'm also due to move into a new house with a rather large garage (already established as mine amongst the people i'll be living with, lol)

now just comes the matter of driving myself further into debt buying all the gear i need...
