Not sure if this is the right section.
I've just come into possession of a 'Little Giant' tool-post grinder. This is a lovely piece of kit, originally supplied by Boxford and Southbend. It is, as it's name suggests, tiny in comparison to any other tool-post grinder I have seen, with only a 125w motor running at 7500 RPM giving the spindle a max speed of about 15000 RPM. The spindle is only about 6mm in diameter. It is taking time to get up to speed, and the spindle bearings are getting warm (but not hot) quite quickly. I'm not able to measure it but I'm not convinced it is making top speed as the sound pitch does appear to keep rising for as long as I dare run it. The spindle has a central oil port to supply both bearings. The bearings don't feel particularly smooth.
There is very little information on the net, the most common result of a search is other people unsuccessfully asking for information!
I tend to use bog standard engine oil or slideway oil to lube just about everything that moves in my workshop but I don't think these would be any good on a relatively high speed spindle and may actually be detrimental. Before I go to the expense of replacing bearings, would anyone be able to suggest a suitable oil for both the motor and spindle bearings that can be purchased in small quantities? Thanks.
