Hilti breaker handle strap

Hi folks,

A while back I acquired a hilti te 905 avr breaker, just one chisel and no side handle, I took a punt on a handle from a te 1000 avr, which as it turns out obviously has a bigger barrel, mine is 95mm diameter I think and the handle is loose even with some rubber tank strap stuff on it.

The band is 20mm x 1.25mm, it's just a hoop with a rounded turn over at the ends and doesn't want to bend so I've an incling it's spring steel.

Would you guys think it is likely to be spring steel? I'm thinking I'll either cut the end off and bend a new eye, or cut the middle out and weld it back shorter, but at a guess spring steel won't weld well at all?

Cut the middle out. Use the cut off piece to bridge the two ends. (Hot) rivet back together with countersink rivets having their heads on the inside of the band. Make a dimple punch to form the countersinks. If you line it with rubber, maybe standard flat head rivets would work.

This is the one I bought for reference. I think the difference is the strap basically, I did wonder if I could find a strip of steel, make a new one and temper it, I've done springs before for door bells with success.

This crossed my mind, much thinner though, we've got some where I sub and I'm there Tuesday so I'll grab a bit.

This is the one I bought for reference.

The solid plastic part of that is roughly 25% of the circumference. If you can reshape that to match the 905's diameter, it will grip better.

If the two plastic halves abut each other as in the photo, you can tighten it with a scaffold tube and it will not grip any better. Maybe make them smaller so there is a gap.
