So, I'm just confirming renewal of the house insurance with Admiral, and the operator says that a yellow banner has come up on his screen and he wants to know chapter and verse on my oil tank.

What's the construction, what's the warranty, is it inspected by an OFTEC git every three years???
Fortunately, it was new 2 years ago, so no real problem other than having to contact the maker to get a PDF file confirming all the detail.

Do you use an oftec heating engineer for servicing….if so he should also check the tank……as i. Yes it's green and over there full of oil!

if you look through any of the large oil tank selling* site you should see yours…..once you do they have downloadable documents…

I have never been asked about my oil tank or boiler, that said we don't chop and change and I'm not a fan of Admiral so would use them anyway

Mmm if they asked 'a friend' they'd be in trouble!
Old, 3000 litres, next to a wooden fence, too near next doors garage eaves, wobbling on two concrete block piers 2' high...
OFTEC obviously never trained their "engineer" that serviced my boiler to change the filter or flex pipe every year!
I did it myself OFTEC can FOXTROT OSCAR!

How would they handle the common 500-1000 gallon propane tanks we have around here ?
Seems most are right next to the house....ugh.

Direct burial is becoming more popular though, I think it's a good idea.

I’ve never been asked about my oil tank. We are covered for theft and leakage

I've been in this house 30 years, and yes, first time the oil tank has ever come up. Until 2 years ago, it was an ancient metal tank with sufficient rust against the supporting brickwork that even I got nervous.

Hope my insurer's never ask. I've got a 2400l , 1800l and a 1000l tanks

It's probably down to the Water Companies; they are probably worried, more than ever now, about domestic oil tanks leaking and polluting the water courses, at which point they would want to sue for lots of money. I think you'd have to suspect that I cannot be the only customer now being asked for this info.

Water Co's ought to put their own house in order regarding fuel storage tanks before going after the domestic customer.
The ones on a mission to fine regarding any Compliance infringement regarding the environment.... are the Environment Agency (or NRW in Wales). In fact, the Water Co's regularly get fined big sums by these Quango's themselves.

Was a thread on here within the last year talking about oil tank leakage I think? Happened to a neighbour here, massive cost as soil needs shipped away and in their case floors in the house ripped up as well as solum was contaminated. Tanker drivers are very careful about what tanks they will fill, slightest sign of UV or any other damage and they won't touch it and the tank becomes animal housing. Insurers footing the bills for all these cleanups so not surprised if they are starting to ask more questions.
