Hi guys, new to the site, found it very useful so far.

I have a question for you guys tho,
I have just got myself a compressor to use air tools and also to start learning how to spray, my question is, what set-up in regards to filtration do you guys use??

Im ask coz i know i need an oiler for air tools but i dnt want oil wen i spray, i want to remove as much moisture as possible.

any info will be great, thanks guys

dont use an oiler, just add a few drops into the tool inlet every day... you dont want oil in the air lines

you will want a water trap

a suitable mask or respirator for the paint you are using

you will need a regulator and a water filter and unless you intend to have 2 outlets 1 oil 1 oiless and 2 airlines 1 for tools and 1 for paint then as mike os said just drop some into the tool

I have 2 outlets. One with a reg/filter/trap/oiler and a separate reg/filter/trap for spraying.

I also have hoses reserved as "oil-free" for spraying.

I find the filter/trap works best the farther away it is from the compressor as the air has cooled down. The regulator and water trap I use for spraying is a good 40' from the compressor. Also it uses a separate water trap after the regulator.

I have a second regulator mounted right on the gun.

I remember using my die grinder on the old setup: regulator on the compressor and the compressor undersized. Got lots of milky oil out of the tool. Replaced the Chinese junk reg/trap and it was better but still had water. Moved the reg up over the bench and the trap now catches much more water.

With my newer compressor setup (large tank, 11CFM FAD,) the traps stay dry.

Funny, I got the compressor used and had this old water trap on it. it was completely full of water. Guess the previous owner never knew what it was.

i agree with you on that one and the longer the compressor is in use the worse it gets

iv found some inline oilers which i may adapt to a short bit of hose for use with tools as dont really want loads of hoses about as its a small home garage.

dont bother with the oilers there a total waste of time ive been running airtools for 35 years the same ones just 3 drops of oil when u are finished using them and a quick run stops any moisture getting in the bearings and rotor . then your set for next use

I had 2 of those inline oilers:

1. they are a pain to fill as they have a tiny little fill hole.
2. Once filled they will dump the entire contents in the line in about a minute of use.
3. They leak. I had one on quick disconnects and it would always leave a slime where you put it as when air was off it still was dumping oil in the line.
4. They are cheap plastic.

It is easier to just put a few drops of oil in the air fitting before using an air tool.

I use a Norgren fog-type oiler so i don't have to mess with oiling each tool. Just plug in and go. Either get a good oiler or do it manually. Inline oilers and cheap Chinese oilers are not worth the hassle.

If your setting up make sure your compressor gets clean air and is not able to suck in any overspray.
