Homemade TIG torch.

The head pivots on the ball stolen from a quarter turn valve and is locked in position by the compression nut.

The big valve is just to show how it works, I'll make a much smaller plastic handle soon.

It's got series two gas lens consumables (Which Weldequip delivered the day after I ordered, very impressed) .


A thinner neck on the ball would allow it to angle further, and a smaller ball would allow me to use a smaller compression nut so the whole thing would be smaller and lighter. I'll make another if I find a smaller ball.

Because I wanted a 9 style torch and I'm too tight to buy one. It was only after I'd made the threaded body and the thin stem that I had the ball idea.

I would agree with Brad, that's going to bite you nicely one day I like the thought behind it, and I applaud your abilities but I do think the sheer size and weight of the thing may negate any need to have a wp9

Will high temperature mastic do the trick?

Depends on its insulating properties. I just know TIG torches use silicone in the head because it stands up to the heat yet remains a good Insulator. Mastic may melt when the Torch gets hot.

Also is your backcap o ring sealing against anything? If not the gas will create a venturi in effect and draw air into the Collet body and cause porosity in your weld.

You can get various types, some with good resistance to high temp.
