Stupid question, when you guys mention the bevel angle, at 60 degrees is this a shallow or wide v, so shallow would be like /\ and wide like ^ if that makes sense?
im assuming you are not all that familiar with welding/rooting due to you asking these questions.
if you can access the back why not use a steel backing bar left in place and its a simple fill with fillet welds . make your patch 10mm smaller allround and job done. 3.2mm 6013.
if you have a single sided root then it could take quite a bit of time ensuring perfect fit up.
if you would prefer a smoother int'l face then why not use a X buttweld, lot less grinding involved. weld from inside first then go outside, grind out as necessary so you can see back of the first weld and finish off from the outside.
no special skills needed really 6013 all the way at a size you are comfortable with.
post up a pic of what you have to do and one of the finished result. even if it dont go too well or look too pretty post up a pic anyway
cheers

ps angle is 30 degrees on each piece therefore intl angle of 60degrees between the two. its more closed up than open. like a V
I was taught ( pipe welding ) not to bevel top plate , bevel bottom , as you form a keyhole the top edge blends in , its a matter of what suits the individual as said !
That's right mate bottom plate would just be square cut and top plate maybe 45-60 degrees just whatever your happy getting a root in at. It's 6mm plate so just use 2.5 rods by not bevelling the bottom plate you
A) save time
B) have a nice landing to for you next pass
