Horizontal to Vertical

I have a Clarke 14cfm compressor with 200l tank, great bit of kit but having a 200l tank means it hogs some useful floor space. I missed out on a vertical tank compressor on here a little while ago and not seen one I would like to buy since then.

I have looked at a number of options to get it off the floor including mounting it in the roof space or building a little compressor shed outside the garage. The 1st option doesn't appeal to me and the 2nd option has recieved a firm no from the wife.

I have been giving some thought to converting it so the tank is vertical and the compressor and motor mounted on top. This would obviously involve cutting the compressor & motor mounting plate off and welding it on the end of the tank and making new feet, again welding them to the tank

Question is, should I not be welding the tank and instead be looking for a factory made vertical tank compressor?

ive found out same thing love to get it stood up compared to along the floor

would love to change mine so its stood up most ive seen on youtube are just welded on the outside no problem as long as you dont put holes in the tank

Put a bracket on the wall and bolt the motor and pump to that?

If you go with fixing it to the wall, you need to make sure that the supports you use for the compressor base to the wall are rated for a dynamic load (compressor vibration). A lot of basic wall anchors aren't suited to it, depending on the wall composition. Save it falling off the wall later due to everything coming loose due to the vibration.

For the tank, some one had a small vertical tank for sale on here fairly recently, big lump of oldworld quality. Can't remember who it was though.

I wanted the vertical to but location location as ever. Id go the same way suggested above, stand the tank up. Id fix to the wall on some kind of flexible bracket and have the weight on a rubber pad.

Then a fabricated shelf for the compressor.

theres just one thing is the drain valve needs to be changed to bottom release thats the ackward part to it as if you dont have a valve there you will have to make one

There is a plug on the end of the tank but it's huge, was gonna drill and tap it then fit an auto drain valve.

Yes motor and pump could go on the wall but vibration might be an issue, this was one of the reasons for not sticking it up in the roof.

Even if I did mount the pump on the wall I'd still need to put some legs on the tank and bolting them wouldn't be an option so would still need to weld it
