You know how it is, you find it hard to throw out metal.
Well a few years ago I saved the armrest off of an office chair that was being replaced, convinced that I'd find a use for it. It was hanging in the garage out of the way, and the bends in the tube finally found a use.
Here's the before. The plastic holder has sagged, cracked, and generally perished in the sun.
I needed to reduce the width and shorten the length of the arm parts. These were also cut so the end could be bent over and have the ends sealed up, as were the screw holes, so the tube is now water tight.
It looks too close to the downpipe in this picture, but there's plenty of room. Note as a bespoke item(!) it was made to fit the old screw holes.
OK, it's not a cost effective project on your time, but when you're having a tinker in the garage, that doesn't matter.
