Hi, I'm an Agric engineer & petrolhead so you can see where welding may fit into my life.
I've got in my own workshop at home a Migatronic 301 & use an Eland 200 at work. 90% of what I do is MIG but stuff out on site is stick. I did learn the basics of gas welding at tech but that was a while back & I've not used it since!

I'm now looking into getting myself an inverter stick welder & the possibility of a TIG kit to suit, I'm off for a wander about here to see what I can learn about them, any threads in particular I should look at?

Have a look in the "Buying a welder" section and the "Arc" and "TIG" sections too...

If you've got a bit to spend I'd be inclined to go for a TIG set that can do stick, that way you have the benefit of the HF start for use with TIG so you don't have to scratch start , well if the one your looking at includes HF...
If you can fork out a little more maybe look towards and AC/DC TIG...

I'm looking though good few threads & finding I'm gaining questions faster than I'm finding answers! I'm not in a desparate rush for a few weeks at least though so I'll keep doing some research & then post a few questions so I can make a decision.
Thanks for the link Omniata, that does indeed seem a good set up, a bit more than was budgeting for but not out of reach. I'm needing to work out what I really need vs what I think I want!

If you post a list of the sorts of things you'll be working with, materials, thickness's, etc, in the "buying a welder section" I'm sure a few of the others will lend a hand pointing you in the right direction

Personally I'd be inclined to save up a bit and definitely go for something including a HF start to save on "scratch starting", if you every plan to work with Aluminium though you'll have to get an "AC" TIG set, then you'll be looking at the cost rising rapidly unfortunately
