How do people store their hoses ?

I've recently bought a new 15m hose and cut it down into more useful, for me, 10m & 5m lengths. My old hose just got coiled up around my arm and stored flat but then it was a case of struggle to untangle when needed so have decided time for proper method of storage.
Commercial air hose reels are simply too expensive to consider. I did look at garden hose reels but more than I want to pay for even the cheapest plus they are far too large.
Ideally something like an extension cable reel would be the sort of thing I'd like but those sold without the cable are dearer than proper air hose items. I don't want centre feed so it can be used unwound - just want something to keep things neat in storage.
I'd be happy just for some sort of reel without a stand / frame but simply can't find one.
Any ideas - what do other use ?

Car wheel rim bolted to the wall. Cut one in half along the diameter and store 2 hoses.

I use an old wooden cable drum for my hose pipe with a bit of tube fixed to the wall for it to spin on, I even made a handle for it to wind it up easier, haven't got a photo to hand unfortunately!

Only problem with reels like the one in the photo is helpful people who tidy up for you and wind it back up letting the connector drag across the floor through the dirt and puddles! I do similar to rtbcomp except mine is a Cadburys Roses tin with some MDF and a wheel trim. I have a spring loaded reel on the wall that is a pain to use as the hose is PVC and has taken a memory to being coiled up.

Another vote for the car wheel rim, we used that method when we had a garage for many years, if you want to be posh you can make it up so the drum rotates as you pull from it.

I coil by hand, using the "under over" method,quick to do and the hoses/cables do not get a coil memory, Plenty of demo's on youtube.

I keep mine in a massive knotted tangle on the floor right underneath where I need to be working. I also keep my extension leads and welding leads in the same place.

On a more serious note - I try to keep them coiled like a figure of eight on two hooks about 2ft apart. the figure of eight stops them getting all twisted up

Just putting them into a loop works fine provided you work any twists out as you're coiling it back up. Always used that method, both on hoses and electric cable, and never had any problems. My extension lead is probably twenty years old now, and still kink free. I can always tell when someone else has had their hands on it though. I swear, that thing will end up as a noose for someone when they do that again, one day.

I just have a piece of 2" wide steel flat bent to a Z and screwed to the wall, I used to wind it around an old Fenton 4" wide magnesium wheel until I got offered £300 for it
I also use a Flexzilla hose, they are excellent !!!

I used to hang mine on 2, 6" gutter brackets that were screwed to the wall about 12" apart. Now I use a suzie hose and just hang the end up (strange how a welding cable can get right through the middle of a hose circle though).

for the last 15 years I've been hanging it on the corner of my cars chassis......this thread will come in handy for when the car is rebuilt

^^^^^ its a 3 month rolling restoration, I originally thought it would take that long to rebuild, but the timescale is always 3 months from today, so its still on schedule for completion

although I have said I want to be driving it for my 50th birthday in just over 4 years time
