I've been thinking of building a small tracked (or 6 wheeled skid steer) vehicle for years.
I know steering is done by braking one side or the other. I assume there is therefore a diff to transmit power to whichever wheel / track is still turning.
However what happens when both sides are braked at the same time to come to a halt ? Does the operator have to press in a clutch to avoid stalling or is there some other device that stops power to diff ? Do powered barrows work the same way ie have a clutch whether manual or centrifugal ? What about 6/8 wheeled like Amphicat ?
Cheers.
