how fast would small blast cabinet use aly oxide grit

Thinking of buying a Sealey SB951 cabinet as I have a pile (30 or more) individual rusty car bits (brackets, calipers, cappings etc) to blast

reading suggests that aly oxide 60/80 is the stuff I should be using but I have no idea how long it would last as it recirculates in the cupboard

The SB951 cabinet takes 4.5Kg of media and I am guessing that what I have to be done could be done out of the initial cabinet load but is that realistic?

is it worth buying 10kg, 25kg ????

This is just for convenience so I can clean something then paint it not a business although sons have started saying you could blast x, y and z for me

If you're going to use a pot just put a bucket under the cabinet, and don't put any more than a bucket full in the pot.

How long it lasts depends on the pressure you use, you'll need more pressure for tougher work.

Don't faff about, buy 25Kg, Once you've got a cabinet you'll use it.

Shop around same cab available from other places and not paying for Sealey name. MMart now £131 ish exact same cabinet.
You can get decent cabs for £300 ish upwards.

The problem will have is the feeds only ok in a fashion for far lighter grit. I have 75kg 80/120 grit and after serious modding it wont pickup or flow through the tube, i have to thin down with thinner grit 50/50 and still painful stopping continuously getting it to feed through after two bursts 10 secs a time.
That said 30 parts in steel will take an eternity ie brake caliper in aluminium may take an hour. Paint and anodising removal will be taking 5 mins per sq inch, similar with steel clean up.
Industrial types is like painting that's the difference.

Pot much better, I do have one but never used in 14 yrs.

I thought it would be faster than this even with my small 10cfm fad compressor. A larger cabinet would also mean a bigger compressor which makes it more economic to pay someone to do it for this particular batch

I have seen these but the sealey is 8cm overall taller which I thought would give more room to work plus it has the bottom sloping in from all four sides and central drain point to make it easier to change media. Generally I have found Sealey stuff to be reasonable

I'd say get 25kg, and put the full tub in, because you'll spend less time moving the grit to the pickup point for the delivery hose in cabinet. Ive got a cabinet similar to the sealey one and ended up modifying it

I don't think a caliper will take an hour even in a small cabinet but you can never underestimate how how this stuff can take.

Never ever put anything greas/oily/wet in in there, so things like calipers either need to be sealed or stripped and cleaned with a solvent. Small suction cabinets can be incredibly frustrating when they stop flowing.

I had a small cabinet that I built and originally suction then went to pressure pot, there is a good reason the high end cabinets cost so much money, there has been years of design in them and thing like big extractors and filter systems cost money.

If you can get is working then you need to set a side enough time/space to blast and paint immediately as things flash rust pretty quickly(although I find if left in the cabinet stuff will be fine for a few days)

I would consider using recycled glass grit and dispose after use, it's cheap as chips.

Some stuff rusts so quickly you can most see the rust forming, brake calipers are notorious for that, but I did some cast bench ends and they weren't very rusty after lying around for a year.

+1 for glass grit.

When it impacts the workpiece it shatters but the bits are still sharp so it can be used a few times. I used new stuff on the tougher jobs and worn grit on the more delicate ones. I didn't throw any away until it was so fine it got caught in the filter.
