How not to pack a pallet

Miracle this didn't go over fully.
Customer did not follow our advice.
Axminster mill - only about 400kg but very top heavy on a small base.
Pallet broke as not ply lined - feet were just bolts sticking down which broke the planks. Would have been much safer bolted.
Strap not exactly great either.

Is there not a point where whoever has to collect it, declines to do so?

I have seen similar from a very well known maker of expensive measuring and inspection equipment - the pallet they placed a lot of tens of thousands of pounds of automated measuring device collapsed in a very similar way.

Drivers often have to refuse pallets - we had one threated with a baseball bat and another had his lorry smashed up for refusing to take a pallet. There are some true maniacs out there.
This one looked ok when it was collected. Often pallets are wrapped in black shrinkwrap so it is up to the shipper to make sure their goods are fit for transport.
Pallet networks are not specialist machinery movers. Drivers are more used to pallets of dog food than milling machines!

Nothing better than a HIAB lorry - if you want to pay £900 and be messed around for weeks as has happened to me recently!
Oh and the idiot used chains instead of straps - not amused at all

You need to work on your photography skills, first impressions are a black outline against a black background. Quite artistic - great if that was what you were aiming for.


My camera phone isn't smart so I've learned to take photos with the light source behind me just to avoid photos like yours. Next time try standing in your doorway so the light works for you not against you. I'll pass on more tips as I find them

Last time i palleted summat it was a bridgeport mill, I used a double size pallet, reinforced the top with 1" ply & bolted the machine down. Head cranked right over, knee right down & all handles removed, then strapped rolls of carpet & tyres over the ends of the table shafts & strapped more layers of carpet over them & every sticky out bit on it, iirc that got to Ireland just fine!

Milling machines are a tosser to move even small ones...very top heavy things especially when some w anker slaps it on a pallet and thinks yer that be fine.

Looks like the strap was the best thing on that load! Otherwise it would have been rolling round the bed! At least they used a pallet that was big enough…
