how to fix a unstable ark

i have a bulldog diesle welder which burns in but will not give a stable ark what could be the problem and how do i fix

Hi john pleased to meet you/welcome to the forum etc. etc.

If "diesle" is diesel and therefore DC then you may be suffering from "arc blow". If so the solution could be to move the welding return clamp (earth clamp), weld towards it or to use AC plant if you can!
