Being a good dad, I have bought my daughter a mini cabriolet for her 18th birthday at the end of the month - she has no idea.
Being a tight dad, I bought it with a fault on the roof. A known problem is the release cable pulls out the clamp. Easy I thought.
With the help of @Jacktegla who helped me pick it up and also keep it at his house we removed the part which took 4 hours so not easy.
The cable had pulled out of the clamp. Videos on YouTube use jb weld to hold the cable. I wasnt to happy with this so I tig'd a m4 nut on the end. Bingo, job done. No. The cable could now rotate in the previous clamp and I wasnt sure this would be a problem so decided to give the crimp a bit of a hit to clamp tighter which in hindsight wasn't the best idea. The crimp just broke in half.
The mechanism is over moulded zinc diecast. Any solution cannot be much bigger as space is at a premium.
A new cable is £400 and a used is £180. I dont fancy paying so much for something that could fail again.
Any ideas?
