I've just joined the forum and would like to say hello.Having just bought a Transit van with the intentions of converting it into a camper van which will,at some point,involve lots of welding.I bought an Arc welder from Aldi,(so that I would have something to have handy,just in case,well you never know do you?),but it seems that I will also need a good MIG unit.I discovered this forum through searching etc,and thought it would be a dammed good idea to join and have expert knowledge at my fingertips!!.So,I need your advise on what to buy.I don't want to spend a fortune but need a unit that will serve me as a good "all rounder",if you know what I mean.Hope some of you can help me and thanks in advance.FELIXX.

Hiya Felixx, and welcome to the forum

Take a nice slow tour around the site, check out the tutorials, especially the arc and mig ones, and follow some of the threads on the Learning Mig Welding section, just to get started. Then take a look at the Buying a Welder section, so you can get some idea of how other people have been advised.

If you're feeling keen, take a look at Weldquip's shop at top of the page, he has a variety of different priced machines in stock. Something in the 135 to 150 Amp range should be big enough to do most jobs on your camper, and the arc welder should tackle the thicker stuff. (Once you get used to using it; arc ain't easy to begin, gets easier with lots of practice).
