Hello all, long time lurker here, thought I would join up as I am doing more welding lately. Own an Aldi gasless mig and arc welder - poverty spec welding but they do nicely for me - the gasless does a fine job on stuff at least 2mm thick, although it does better with better quality wire.
As for experience, did a bit of Mig at school and picked up a mig not very often in the 10 years after that, then did Arc, Mig, Tig and gas C&G basic course at nightschool to learn more a few years ago. Put new sills on my Hilux a few years ago - borrowed a clark 160t mig to do that, easy as it was a whole panel and plug welded it on, but had to fab up and seam weld some of the surrounding parts.
Never really had the space to do a lot of welding but built myself a nice shed last year and was gifted the aldi welders and have a few empty gas bottles lying around so empty them, cut them up and stick them back together as something new.
Will be getting myself an oxy acetylene set when I tidy a place in the shed for it - a mate has one he does not use, want or need, bottles and all and will give me that - have used it a few times in the past for cutting stuff up and I think that is what I will be using it for as I prefer to stick stuff together with the mig.
I did a write up on the Hilux sills on a Hilux forum with pics, can copy and paste it over here if anyone would think it useful?
