Had a wee gander at this forum and it looks like just what I need.
I'm a retired offshore technician, (mechanical), and had some welding experience in the Merchant Navy. The company arranged a welding course for me way back in 1975. I wasn't allowed to weld on the rigs due to Health and Safety, all welding had to be done by coded people, so my skills if any are very rusty.
But I was welding today!
A cast iron garden bench end, which got cracked by the very cold weather two winters ago.
Someone lent me a SIP Weldmate 140 and I bought some Oerlikon rods (2.5mm) on eBay.
If I can get some level of skill back on arc I might buy a small machine.
I have never used Mig or Tig, so might leave off going down that route until I see how things go. I'm thinking of trying some garden ornaments etc.
I look forward to joining in the forum.
