HVLP turbine help needed

Just wondering if anyone out there can advise me.Have been spraying cars for years as my hobby is restoring classic cars(mainly 2 pack paint).I have a Compair 3HP with 150l tank which is perfect and use A Sealey 2HP 50l for my mask.My problem now is from my neighbour.He has complained to the council about noise(his letter says I had a generator running but he must have meant the compressor) and paint smell.Please believe me I aren't the neighbour from hell and have always moderated my useage/noise/time of day etc but he's just a moaning old sod by nature.I was looking on Ebay at these HVLP turbine set ups.Maybe this is the answer as I assume they will make less noise and a lot less vapour?It appears that the better ones are over £300 but if it stops him eavesdropping/sniffing the fumes maybe I can carry on my hobby.I would appreciate any advice from any with experience of these regarding the concerns I mentioned as well as if they do a decent paint job?

for a start i would be building a sound proofing box / room for the compressors if you build it right it will reduce the noise a lot
as for the vapour / overspray i would think you will get that with any gun due to the atomisation of the paint so it sounds like you may need to filter the air coming from where ever you are spraying

Apparently with the turbine type there is hardly any overspray or clouds of fumes.

Never heard of them but they sound like a good idea. On the noise front I'd defiantly build some kind of box for your comps, I have mine in a normal garage inside a box made from old chip board and once the garage is shut you can hardly hear it. And no I don't live in the middle of nowhere just a normal 3 bed semi

The fumes are my biggest worry tho but no complaints so far.

Thanks for all comments.I am making a box to put over the comp lined with thick roofing felt and hopefully that should help the noise problem.Must admit though that the idea of the turbine with roughly 10psi at the gun and the resulting lack of clouds of mist do appeal.I would like to give it a go but the manufacturers claims arent as helpful(or realistic)as the experience of someone who has actually used it on a car,even if it means doing a small amount at a time.

Haven't used a turbine but would've thought they'd create about the same amount of fog as a comp+HVLP gun, and the same thinners smell. I've been mulling over ways of cheaply filtering, mainly for the 2k overspray fog but also hoping it'd cut down on the thinners smell as well.

I used a Apollo one around the late 70s and didn't think much of it, but they should have improved by now I would have thought, It all depends how much spraying you do really you have a better set up already for spraying I think, a bit of effort in sound proofing and maybe trying to extract fumes in the opposite direction from your neighbour would show willing at least, but you can smell the paint whatever you decide thats the nature of the beast especially if he is downwind of you. If he is one of those neighbour`s that wont be happy whatever you do then whats the point spending a lot of money on another system just to be back at square one.

Land Rover use something similar in the paintshop, downdraft the fumes into a water table under the spray booths. Water delivery & return pipes were about 12" diameter and settling tank the size of a small swimming pool which was drained once a year to dig out about 4 feet of paint waste!
p.s. the smell was aweful (need a "holding nose" smiley)
