Hydraulic T-piece

I'm pretty sure someone here will know the answer, given the range of experience/skills available in the collective.

I'm [belatedly ] considering fitting a pressure gauge to my homemade 10-ton press and would need a suitably valved T-piece to fit between the hose and the ram. It's similar to the MM one but without the fitting on top for the gauge.

This is mine......

I've been Googling but am unsure what the connector would need to be as it's not a simple 'straight-through' job with valves inside to operate the ones on the pipes/ram.

Pirtek used to have a unit in Inverness but it's closed now and calls are routed to Aberdeen to arrange call-outs.

Anyone have knowledge of such things? Thanks in advance.

A T with a restriction in the gauge line to stop the bump when pressure released not strictly required but helps some have a stop tap in the gauge take off as well

you can get a straight connector with a gauge point on it they call them test point adapters ,, or you can get an adapter that turns a standard port into a test point too , gauges typically have a flat seal on them and t pieces have a face / conical seal , unless its gates and they have an o ring as well. the gauge will have the small hole to smooth readings and prevent sudden shocks messing with the gauge its self.

McGregor Industrial, have a hydraulics, division. It is just up from there main showroom, on the same side as the groundcare dept.

Or there is H&M hydraulics. Not sure where they are. Have only been into Elgin one.

Amazingly I remembered , here are pics - apologies for poor quality might have been better if I had three hands.

TPI as near as I can measure with my thread gauges is 20. The plug which goes into the ram when not in use

The business end at the pump handle, you can see the 'valve' which connects to the ram to allow oil to pass through

Hope this is good enough for our purposes? If you have nothing, can you tell me from those which connector I'd need to get?

Not that bit John, you will have to unscrew the bit that goes into the ram, the T piece will screw into the ram and the bit you unscrewed from the ram will them go into the T as will the gauge.

Do I run the risk of introducing air and so an airlock in the ram if I do that? It looks to be screwed in with some sort of tape [PTFE] on the threads? Sorry if I appear dumb about such things, I'm wary about potential leaks at 10 tons pressure [potentially] behind them.

It's simple to bleed. My ram has a bit of a leak. 20 ton. . Needs topping up regularly. I haven't died yet. I should get round to fixing it properly.
