Hydrovane 15 'goosed'... repair or replace with cheaper new compressor?

Hi,

I had just mixed up some epoxy primer to do the chassis of my bus and my Hydrovane 15 decided to play up... I have recently serviced it as it had a problem but it looks like the problem hasnt been resolved. Basically it is leaking and from somewhere and it sounds like it is boiling the oil - just before I turned it off today it struggled to hit 5psi.

So, does anyone have any ideas on what it might be? I am a bit pained to spend too much money on it; it is quite ratty and I've just spent best part of £100 servicing it but at the same time they are good compressors (I think) and I certainly can't afford a new one.

If its looking beyond repair, can anyone recommend a new compressor for about £250-300 that would comfortably handle spraying?

Oil could just be overheating because its running far more trying to sustain pressure, get a can of gas/refridgerant leak detector and spray it, it will show up the tiniest leak...good luck!

What was the problem before you serviced it and was the service supposed to fix the problem ? I have an old SIP direct drive 3hp which will happily spray with my gravity gun all day, what you are asking needs more detail like how much spraying and what lifespan you hope to get out of the compressor. I don't own a Hydrovane but I've noticed a lot of people buy second hand ones which have been farmed out because they have problems which are expensive to repair and need specialised regular servicing to keep them in good running order. Alright if you are a factory or garage making money off them but diy is a different matter. Nothing on a Hydrovane falls into the "not much money" bracket.

i get the inpression that any hydrovan that isn't under warranty is best off belonging to someone else.

the lubrication oil goes through an oil/air cooler, check thats not blocked,not allowing air flow
