hydrovane 15 with briggs and stratton 8hp.

hi folks. its been a while..

quick question for all compressor heads out there..

ive just been given a petrol driven hydrovane 15 compressor thats driven by a briggs and stratton 8hp petrol engine...it was original in a genny style cage but was removed to fit into the back of a service vehicle thus no receiver.

my question is...

can this be run continuously without a receiver while hooked up to air tools..

ive fired it up using a small length of air hose with a blow gun on the end and the compressor climbed quickly to 120psi then held the same pressure with little or no change until i blasted some air out the gun when the pressure dropped to about 100-110 psi...then on release the pressure jumped straight back to 120psi..

am i right in thinking this monster is meant for constant use without use of a receiver??

the comp can be run no bother without a tank there an optional extra .a tank helps smooth out rapid short bursts of air use and also helps on cooling the air

thats worth remebering i have the same pump unit. they must have an internal valve to stop them over pumping

i listened to mine carefully through the thudding of the lump and could hear hissing. apparently theres 2 types of pressure relief valves for these units. ones 7 bar and the upgrade is 10 bar. im sure mine is a 7 bar...its underneath the silver cover housing the filter..so once it reaches its limit it just lets the excess air out so it doesnt go bang..

There is a built in relief valve in most Hydrovanes to allow constant running.

lovely old job...some 300psi rated hose and a bspp hose tail fitted to the beast...now for the business end..
