hydrovane 15

Hi guys i joined mainly cos i need help with a hydrovane 15 21 year old compressor with 100l tank.

im haveing trubbel finding out what capasitor i need - i was given the compresesor from a family member and it needs a new capasitor - there is already one on there but it needs 2 - 1 start and 1 run capasitor

i think i need the start cap - any one know what size i need

Look on the motor data plate, sometimes the capacitor values are given there.

nope nothing on there - just sais 2.2kw and a few model numbers - ive been looking for a month now and im getting fed up with the bloody thing.

It's quite difficult to calculate the correct values of cap from scratch. My advice would be to contact the motor manufacturer, give them the serial number so they can advise the correct caps. Or find a local motor rewind company, take the motor to them and they will have the info.

If your getting an electrician in to do the job for you show him the capacitors he will be able to get them from his supplier for you (they should only be a few quid each) Make sure you get proper START and RUN capacitors. What I have is as follows:

The vertical one is the start capacitor I called hydrovane to ask the correct uf and VAC and the told me to replace with 200uf 275VAC. The best I could get at the time was an ItalFarad MSC 250-315uf 250VAC model no:704093047 (Note the MSC bit)

The horizontal one is your run capacitor I don't know the orginal Hydrovane specs for this one it was replace by the company I bought the compressor from and I have an ItalFarad RP-2 30uf 400-450VAC 50/60Hz 29-10W model no:30040
