Hydrovane 5/15 motor coupling

Hello everybody,

I've just acquired a Hydrovane 5 pump and after some good head scratching I realize I'm missing the coupling from the motor side.

The way I understand it is the pump has a 20mm alloy coupling, the motor 24mm alloy coupling and in between sits the rubber spider. Well, I'm missing the 24mm one.

Are there sold as spare parts anywhere? Where exactly do I get one?

Just to clarify, I'm looking for the alloy coupler/impeller from the motor side. I already have the air end coupler and rubber spider.

@Luke Thanks for the info, although it looks like I will have to get the specific Hydrovane part. It has some cooling fins around it which I haven't seen on the generic couplings.

Anyway, there isn't one shred of information about this on the web which is somehow surprising as they seem to be going like hot cakes on ebay. So I though of putting my findings so far here (if I made a mistake, I will update as I go along). Firstly, all 5 and 15 share the same pump down to the shaft end, but otherwise we have to make a difference between units which come mounted on top of an air receiver or on a tripod (meant to be hooked directly to your air tools).



For air tank mounted, the coupling setup seems to be the same for both 5 and 15 models (1.1kw and respectively 2.2kw motors). In fact, the only difference between 5 and 15 is the power rating of the motor. What I need is the couplings on the right, with the cooling fins.



Edit: I just spoke to the technical stuff at Compair and found that 5 and 15 were only the same for a short period of about a year at the very beginning (1985), after that the oil cooling on the 15 was slightly improved against the 5. I could only see 2 items that are different in the parts list, the air intake cover (houses the rotor bearing on the inside) and the motor coupling.



For stand-alone units, Hydrovane 5 still has the same couplings setup as above.

Hydrovane 15 however has a completely different coupling setup (yellow rubber spider below). Could that be because being a stand-alone unit and having the more powerful 2.2kw motor - it's assumed to be run continuously and thus needing a tad stronger coupling assembly? Or maybe some other obscure reason, who knows...
