Hydrovane 502 problem

I've got a couple of problems with my Hydrovane 502. I don't know if they are all related to the same issue or not. When I try to start it first thing in the morning the motor will run very slowly for a couple of seconds and the the pressure switch will pop out the start button stopping the compressor. If you try it a few times it will eventually start properly. The other problem is that the air takes for ever to vent from the air end it sometimes never reaches 0 and it slowly leaks air from the receiver you can hear a faint hiss in the air end.

Could it be a problem with the check valve sticking? would that stop the compressor on startup and explain the slow air loss when upto pressure?
