Hydrovane 6

I have been give a Hydrovane 6PUM compressor which was not being used anymore. It was a freebiee so couldn't really say no.

WHat can people tell me about it? There's hardly any info on the net other than it's 6CFM. A friend of mine says he had one in the 80's and was brilliant, but said they like to be run continuously rather than stop start like a piston compressor.

Hydrovanes are good compressors, speshully when free !!
They can suffer with intermittent use though, the internals are vulnerable to corrosion in those circumstances. Problems are avoided by frequent oil changes using a high quality synthetic oil, preferably Hydrovanes own, and the filter of course.
With good regular servicing they go on for a very long time. Use the search function on the forum for Hydrovane, there have been a number of threads on them.

Cleaned it up this morning, checked oil (full and clean!) Machine looks almost new, I have been using it this morning and it seems fine. Maintains correct pressure but needs a new connector as the one fitted is leaking.

I will get a filter kit and give it an oil change for peace of mind.
